Schmidt Consulting Group, Inc. provided Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Communications design services for the new, $5 million, 16,495 square foot Combined Structural and Aircraft Fire and Rescue Station located at NAS Meridian.

The facility includes apparatus bays, living quarters, kitchen and dining areas, a lounge, administrative spaces, laundry and disinfecting facilities, and an outdoor, landscaped patio. The building concept proposes a single-story facility comprised of an eight-bay (four back-to-back bays) apparatus area and a sleeping, gathering, and work area. The exterior finish materials combine brick veneer and split face masonry with a standing seam metal roof to provide a building that has a “sense of place” with respect to the site.

The roof is standing seam metal with exposed downspouts and gutters. Large overhead doors define the apparatus bays, while the main building entry and communication control room are defined by a single gable form projecting from the main roof line.

Mezzanine space is provided to accommodate AFFF tank storage and mechanical equipment. The general layout of the building and site is in direct compliance with the requirements of the RFP, and is largely due to the tight constraints of the site based on the setback requirements of the UFC 4-010-01 DoD Minimum Anti-terrorism Standards for Buildings.
