The project provided state-of-the-art capability to maintain existing C-130 and new C-130J extended version aircraft systems, as well as other significant aircraft maintenance and operational capabilities. The building design included extensive equipment storage and administrative spaces, five maintenance bays with overhead cranes, six briefing/training rooms, and a 6,960 square foot multipurpose room with seating for 500 occupants. The 403rd MXG mission includes launch and recovery of aircraft, engine maintenance, and propeller maintenance in support of the 815th Airlift Squadron and the "Hurricane Hunters" of the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron. The 403rd Wing is the only Department of Defense unit with a designated mission of flying into hurricanes to gather critical data for the National Weather Service. |
